Homeland
Homeland tells the story of the Ukrainian women who managed to escape the war, leaving their “men” behind to fight—an example of courage and perseverance.
In the Homeland series, the women are portrayed wearing traditional clothing and holding traditional bread, a symbol of hospitality and welcome.
Listening to the stories of mothers and children who have experienced the horrors of war—forced to flee their homeland, often leaving behind their homes and belongings in the hope of one day reclaiming them—was an experience that profoundly impacted my life. Looking back, it has undoubtedly influenced the decisions I have made in the years that followed.
I believe that photography, beyond capturing the beauty of life, should serve a purpose that goes beyond what we can see with our eyes—something often more important than the materialism to which we have become completely accustomed.
